Forecasters say severe thunderstorms are possible and could bring high winds and tornadoes to the northern Illinois area on Monday evening into Tuesday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) said Sunday that a strong low-pressure system will move through the Upper Midwest on Monday.
Storms are expected to enter northern Illinois on Monday night into early Tuesday morning.
“There remains uncertainty on the exact coverage and strength, though they are expected to weaken with time and eastward extent,” the NWS said.
The greatest severe risk will be in northwest Illinois where all severe hazards, including wind, hail and tornadoes, will be possible.
The NWS said there is uncertainty whether the storms will maintain their severity or weaken as they move into the area.
A graphic from the weather service showed a two out of five level for severe weather threat in Lake County, as well as much of McHenry County.
A small portion of northwest McHenry County is rated at a three out of five level for severe weather threat.
The NWS said there will be dry periods but chances remain for showers and storms through mid-week.
Residents are urged to have multiple ways to get weather warnings and take shelter if a warning is issued.
