Impact: Wintry Mix Ends, Roads Stay Icy Overnight

The wintry mix of sleet and freezing rain tapers overnight as temperatures hover in the lower 30s. Roadways stay slick to icy through early Sunday morning. Temperatures warm into the mid to upper 30s with more sunshine Sunday afternoon.

HERSHEY PARK, ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEXES. WE STILL HAVE THAT WIDESPREAD WINTRY MIX OUT THERE ACROSS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY, BUT THINGS ARE STARTING TO LESSEN IN INTENSITY. AND OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS, IT WILL WIND DOWN AND MOVE OUT OF THE REGION AND WILL DRY BACK OUT FOR THE REST OF OUR WEEKEND. BUT WE STILL HAVE THAT WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 A.M. SUNDAY FOR ALL OF THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. AND IT REALLY HAS BEEN A TALE OF TWO HALVES OUT THERE ACROSS THE REGION. FOR AREAS NORTH OF THE TURNPIKE. THIS STORM HAS BEEN PREDOMINANTLY SLEET, WITH SOME RAIN MIXING IN SOUTH OF THE TURNPIKE. IT’S BEEN PREDOMINANTLY FREEZING RAIN WITH SOME SLEET MIXING IN SO AREAS NORTH OF THE TURNPIKE. TRAVEL CONDITIONS WILL BE A LITTLE BIT WORSE THAN AREAS SOUTH OF THE TURNPIKE AND SOUTH OF THE TURNPIKE. YOU HAVE TO WATCH OUT FOR BLACK ICE AND SLIPPERY CONDITIONS, BUT IT’S NORTH OF THE TURNPIKE. YOU MAY STILL HAVE A COATING OF ICE IN THAT SLEET STILL ON THE GROUND AS WE GO THROUGH THE OVERNIGHT HOURS. YOU CAN SEE THAT HERE ON OUR HERSHEY SKY CAM THAT COATING OF SLEET, SOME AREAS PICKING UP A HALF AN INCH TO AN INCH OF SLEET BEFORE THIS STARTS TO SWITCH OVER TO PREDOMINANTLY FREEZING RAIN. SO RIGHT NOW IN HERSHEY WE HAVE FREEZING RAIN FALLING AND IT FEELS LIKE IT’S 22. AS THE WINDS ARE STARTING TO PICK UP. BUT YOU CAN SEE HERE ON LIVE LOCAL EIGHT RADAR, IT’S NOT AS INTENSE AS IT WAS FOR THE 6:00 NEWSCAST, BUT TEMPERATURES STILL ACROSS MUCH OF THE VALLEY AT OR BELOW FREEZING. BUT NOTICE GETTYSBURG. YOU’RE STARTING TO RISE NOW ABOVE FREEZING. SO WHERE YOU SEE THE PINK THAT IS IN THE FORM OF FREEZING RAIN, WE’RE STILL SEEING THAT LIGHT PURPLE. BUT IT’S NOT AS INTENSE. THAT’S STILL IN THE FORM OF SOME SLEET, BUT WHERE YOU’RE NOT SEEING HERE ON THE RADAR IS STILL THAT MIST THAT’S STILL FAIRLY WIDESPREAD ACROSS THE REGION. BUT WHERE WE ARE SEEING IS ALL OF THIS PRECIPITATION STARTING TO COME TO AN END, BACK TOWARDS PITTSBURGH AND TOWARDS SOMERSET AND JOHNSTOWN. THAT’S GOING TO HAPPEN HERE IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF HOURS. SO NOTICE BY 2:00 IT STARTS TO BREAK UP. AND BY THE TIME WE GET TO DAWN ON SUNDAY, WE WILL SEE BREAKS IN THE CLOUDS AND TEMPERATURES WILL START TO RISE. SO HERE’S THAT 12 HOUR FORECAST. IT REMAINS AN IMPACT NIGHT WITH FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET THROUGH MIDNIGHT. AND THEN IT TAPERS OFF AND WE’LL GET SOME BREAKS IN THE CLOUDS AS WE GO THROUGH THE MORNING. FOR FOLKS HEADING OUT THERE FOR CHURCH SERVICES, THEY’RE STILL GOING TO BE SOME SLICK SPOTS OUT THERE BY THE TIME WE GET TO LUNCHTIME. WE WILL SEE THOSE TEMPERATURES RISE ABOVE FREEZING, SO OUR WEATHER WILL IMPROVE AS WE GET INTO THE LUNCH HOUR, AND WEATHER SHOULD BE NICE FOR SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND SUNDAY EVENING FOR THE SUPER BOWL. HERE’S RYAN ARGENTI WITH MORE ON THAT AND WHAT’S TO COME FOR THE REST OF THE NEXT TEN DAYS. HERE WE GO. SUPER BOWL LOVERS. READY EAGLES FANS, HERE WE GO. THAT’S WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT. LOOKING LOOKING AT THIS REAL FINE SUPER BOWL PLANNER HERE. IT’S GONNA BE A LITTLE BIT BREEZY AS WE GET INTO THE AFTERNOON. SHOPPING IS GOING TO BE RATHER NICE, BUT LIKE ETHAN HAD MENTIONED, WE’RE GOING TO IMPROVE IN THOSE CONDITIONS HEADING INTO SUNDAY AFTERNOON, 36 DEGREES FOR BY NOONTIME 38. PARTLY SUNNY BY AROUND 3:00. AND WHEN YOU’RE MAKING THOSE THOSE REAL GOOD, THAT REAL GOOD COOKING THERE IN THE KITCHEN THERE BRISK THOUGH AS WE GET INTO 630 RIGHT AROUND KICKOFF 34 DEGREES. IT’LL BE CHILLY THOUGH, AS YOU’RE HEADING HOME FROM YOUR SUPER BOWL PARTIES. NOW LET’S WIDEN OUT THE PICTURE HERE. WE’RE GOING TO TAKE YOU TO REALLY TO LOOK ACROSS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY. THIS IS WHAT WE’RE SEEING RIGHT NOW. THIS SYSTEM NOW IS IS NOW PUSHING OUT. YOU CAN SEE THE BACK EDGE OF THAT STORM IS NOW STARTING TO DISSIPATE. I DO WANT TO DRAW YOUR ATTENTION THOUGH, UP TOWARDS THE NORTHWESTERNMOST PORTIONS OF THE COUNTRY. YOU SEE THIS CLOUD LAYER HERE WHERE SOME OF THE ACTIVITY THAT’S HAPPENING HERE, THAT IS TUESDAY’S STORM SYSTEM, AND THAT’S GOING TO BE RIDING ALONG THIS BLUE PATH HERE, THIS BLUE, THESE BLUE ARROWS HERE, THAT’S GOING TO BE THE JET STREAM. AND TUESDAY STORM SYSTEM IS GOING TO BE RIDING RIGHT ALONG THE EDGE OF THAT INTO THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. SO I DO WANT TO TIME SOME THINGS OUT FOR YOU AS WE GET INTO TUESDAY. YOU CAN SEE CURRENTLY NOW THAT’S WHAT WE’RE EXPECTING TO SEE THE BACK END OF THAT STORM START TO PUSH OUT. IT’LL BE A NICE SETUP AS WE GET INTO SUNDAY AND MONDAY, TIMING THINGS OUT FOR TUESDAY MORNING. YOU SEE THE OUTER THE OUTER EDGE OF THIS STORM SYSTEM. IT’S LIGHT SNOW THAT’S GOING TO BE BUILDING INTO THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY, GETTING INTO THE AFTERNOON, ESPECIALLY THE EARLY AFTERNOON. NOTICE THIS. WE HAVE LIGHTER SNOW TOWARDS THE SUSQUEHANNA VALLEY. THE WORST OF THE STORM IS GOING TO BE SOUTH OF THE COMMONWEALTH. YOU CAN SEE TOWARDS MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA AS WELL, WHERE THOSE BRIGHTER WHITES ARE AT. THAT’S WHERE WE’RE EXPECTING THE MOST SNOW ACCUMULATION AS WE GET INTO TUESDAY EVENING. NOW, AS WE GET INTO TUESDAY NIGHT, THE BULK OF THAT SYSTEM IS ALREADY PUSHED OUT. IT’S GOING OUT TO SEA NOW. WE’RE ALSO KEEPING AN EYE ON WEDNESDAY AS WELL FOR SOME CHANCES OF SOME SOME WINTRY WEATHER AS WELL FOR WEDNESDAY. SO IT’S BACK TO BACK SYSTEMS THAT ARE GOING TO BE COMING UP FOR NEXT WEEK. BUT FOR TUESDAY’S SYSTEM, IT’S VERY LOW. IMPACT WILL BE DEVELOPING TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND ENDING BY WET BY WEDNESDAY MORNING. THIS TYPE OF STORM IS GOING TO BE ALL SNOW. WE’RE NOT EXPECTING ANY MIX OF FREEZING RAIN OR SLEET LIKE WE’RE DEALING WITH RIGHT NOW. IT’S GOING TO BE MAINLY ALL SNOW EVENT, HIGHEST TOTALS SOUTH OF THE TURNPIKE, BUT ESPECIALLY SOUTH OF PENNSYLVANIA. BUT FOR ANY UNTREATED ROADWAYS, EXPECT SNOW COVERED ROADWAYS AS WELL. FOR THE REST OF THE TEN DAYS AS GETTING INTO NEXT WEEK. LOOK AT THIS BACK TO BACK TO BACK SYSTEMS WITH AN IMPACT DAY ON TUESDAY, IMPACT DAY ON THURSDAY FOR A CHANCE OF A MIX AN
